George T. Strickland

George has over 25 years of investment experience, primarily with Thornburg Investment Management of Santa Fe. He retired from Thornburg in 2014, after having managed over $10 billion of assets. George was a founding portfolio manager of the Thornburg Strategic Income Fund and lead manager for other fixed income strategies including the Thornburg municipal bond funds.  As such, he adds institutional money management experience and hands-on knowledge of the mutual fund world to Santa Fe Advisors’ resources. George grew up overseas and in the Washington DC area. He received his BA in economics from Davidson College and his MBA from the University of Maryland.

After retiring from Thornburg, George served on the board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico and the Endowment Board for Santa Fe Prep. He was also Board Chairman and Treasurer for the Santa Fe Conservation Trust. He enjoys biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, skiing, and everything else about living in northern New Mexico.
